On 3rd of December, the International day of persons with disability
During 3rd of December, the International Day of persons with disability,
the Republic Center for Support of Persons with Intellectual Disability – PORAKA
and its local branches have decided to focus on the relation between the poverty
and the intellectual disability. Therefore, the local branches of PORAKA organised
public debates regarding the actual situation of persons with intellectual
disability and their families in aspect of social and health protection, education
and employment and generally the living standard of this group of citizens.
PORAKA Veles held the public debate on 1.12.2005 with participation of all
relevant institutions and NGO sector. The local media covered the public debate.
PORAKA Kavadarci organised round table on 29.11.2005 regarding the relation
between the poverty and intellectual disability, and the possibility for equal
participation of persons with intellectual disability in everyday life. Also,
PORAKA Kavadarci organized an art workshop with participation of persons with
intellectual disability, and on 3rd of December organised a performance and
open stand with handiworks made by persons with intellectual disability.
PORAKA Kocani had a meeting with the Mayor of Kocani, Mr. Ljubomir Janev, on
02.12.2005. During the meeting the Mayor was introduced with the problems,
needs and potentials of persons with intellectual disability, but also with
the progress achieved and the difficulties that these citizens have encountered
in the past year. On the public debate, they emphasised the relation between
poverty and intellectual disability in aspect of social and health protection,
education and employment of persons with intellectual disability.
PORAKA Kriva Palanka held two public debates on this subject, one in Kriva
Palanka on 01.12.2005, and one in municipality of Rankovce on 05.12.2005. Also,
PORAKA Kriva Palanaka organised an art exhibition with drawings made by persons
with intellectual disability.
PORAKA Stip held a round table on the subject: “Changes in the Law for Social
Protection and the Law for Employment of Persons with Disability” on 29.11.2005.
The President of PORAKA Stip was guest in a programme of the local TV station
Iris on 27.11.2005 and had the opportunity to introduce the public with the
work of PORAKA Stip and the everyday problems of persons with intellectual
disability.
On 3rd of December, the International Day of Persons with Disability, PORAKA
Ohrid organised public debate and exhibition. The exhibition was set in the
Centre for Culture “Grigor Prlicev” in Ohrid on 02-05.12.2005. It represented
around 60 drawings and handiworks made by the users of the day center, as well
as drawings of pupils from the local schools.
On 01.12.2005 in the Center for Creativity, PORAKA Kumanovo had a creative
workshop named “With love and joined together we can do everything!” where
children from the social club, pupils from special classes and member of the
art section participated. The works were exhibited in the hall of the center.
On 05.12. PORAKA Kumanovo organised public debate on the subject “Poverty and
Intellectual Disability”, which initiated fruitful discussion.
Under the motto “Everyone has the right to social security”, PORAKA Gevgelija
held public debate on 02.12.2005, where the difficulties that persons with
intellectual disability encounter in everyday life were highlighted. Measurements
were suggested for overcoming the actual situation of this group of citizens.
Also, an art exhibition was organised made by persons with intellectual disability,
and the Mayor of Gevgelija, Mr. Dragi Delev, rewarded the artists.
Within the programme for 3rd of December, PORAKA Skopje realised several activities,
and as one of the most important is the meeting between the parents and engaged
persons in PORAKA Skopje with the Mayor of municipality of Aerodrom, Mr. Kiril
Todorovski. The meeting was held on 29.11.2005 and there was a mutual agreement
for partnership relations between the local authorities and PORAKA. As a result
of the cooperation with municipality of Aerodrom, PORAKA Skopje organised an
exhibition of handiworks made by the users of the day center of PORAKA in Skopje.
Furthermore, representatives from the local authorities visited the day center
on 02.12.2005 and during this visit it was agreed that municipality of Aerodrom
will have its representative in the Executive Board of PORAKA Skopje.
Different activities were organised with the pupils from primary and secondary
schools. There were exhibitions in the secondary schools “Nikola Karev”, “Zefljus
Marku” and Rade Jovcevski – Korcagin”. In the schools “Ljuben Lape” and “Rade
Jovcevski – Korcagin” discussions were led in order to introduce the pupils
with the intellectual disability. Also, in the period 28.11 – 09.12.2005 sports
events were organised in “Ljuben Lape” between the pupils of this school and
the users of the day center.
In cooperation with the Red Cross of City of Skopje, the users of the day center
together with the juniors from the Red Cross made New Year Cards on 08.12.2005.
These cards will be offered for sale in one of the shopping centres in Skopje.
During the period till 02.12.2005, the engaged persons from the day center
of PORAKA in Skopje prepared a questionnaire regarding the relation between
the poverty and the intellectual disability, which was distributed to the parents-members
of PORAKA Skopje. The results from this questionnaire were submitted to the
Republic center for Support of Persons with Intellectual Disability PORAKA.
