European initiaitives for provision of dignified life through quality services
The European Association of Service providers for persons with Disabilities (EASPD), in the period from 15th till 17th of September 2008, in Vienna – Austria, held two International Conferences on the subject “Quality of Life Measures” and “European Care Certificate”. Over 150 representatives of member organizations of EASPD and representatives of national and local authorities from Europe participated on the conferences. In continuance of the Conferences, General Assembly with elections of EASPD and Formal Ceremony for lifetime achievements awards were held.
On the 15th of September, In Vienna – Austria, International Conference of the subject: “Quality of Life Measures” was held, which had the aim of presenting the results of the project, realized in the past two years, by EASPD in partnership with several member organizations of EASPD.
Within the project, a methodology for measuring the quality of life for persons with disabilities was developed, with special focus on the areas of employment and services. During the debates within the conference, the role of the services was highlighted, i.e. their quality of work, as one of the fundamental conditions for introducing additional quality in everyday life of persons with disabilities.
The second conference, which was held on 16th of September 2008, on the subject: “European Care Certificate”, also represented a final activity of a project run by EASPD, aimed towards creation of instruments that will unify the level of necessary knowledge of the persons that are being engaged in the sector for care and protection of persons with intellectual disability.
Having in mind that allover Europe, there are different criteria for engaging personnel for the services aimed for persons with intellectual disability, within the conference it was discussed about establishing a basic necessary level of knowledge for the personnel when they are being engaged in the services in the countries of Europe.
Particularly important result of the project, which was presented on the conference, is the questionnaire model, i.e. test, which should be used as a initial method for assessing the basic knowledge of the personnel, which is also a condition for gaining the so called European Certificate for care.
The Elective General Assembly of EASPD was held on 17th of September 2008 where new management structure of EASPD was elected (President, three Vice-Presidents and a Board comprised of nine members). An enormous success for the Republic center – PORAKA is that Vasilka Dimoska MD, Program Manager of the Republic Center – PORAKA was elected as one of the nine members of the EASPD Board.
On the 15th of September, in the City Hall of Vienna, EASPD held Formal Ceremony for lifetime achievements awards. The awards were given to two prominent activists in the field of services for persons with disability: D-r. Maria Bruckmuller from Austria, and to our great satisfaction, to Mr. John O’Gorman from Ireland, who is a great friend and supporter of the Republic Center – PORAKA.
