Activities of the Republic center for support of persons with intellectual disability – PORAKA

Workshops for SWOT analysis of the local branches and day centers of PORAKA

One of the program activities of the Republic center for support of persons with intellectual disability – PORAKA is coordination and support to its local branches and services. Therefore, in the past years, the Republic center – PORAKA organized two different cycles of seminars for capacity building of the local branches.

While conducting both cycles of training, among other topics that were elaborated, particular attention has been given to SWOT analysis. It is a very useful tool for assessing the current situation within the organization, with all its strengths and weaknesses, as well as the opportunities and the threats that come from the environment where the organization acts. This tool, if is objectively prepared, represents a solid foundation for developing real and effective action plans of the organization. Furthermore, it can provide ways for improving and overcoming the weaknesses of the organization.

Therefore, the Republic center for support of persons with intellectual disability, as the previous years, asked the local branches and the day centers to prepare SWOT analyses regarding their work. After preparation of the SWOT analyses, three workshops were held for their detailed elaboration. The first workshop was held in Struga, in the Education and Recreation Center of Red Cross, 15 – 16.11.2008. Participants on this workshop were representatives of the local branches where the day centers of PORAKA function. Also, participants were the engaged personnel in the day centers, except a representative from PORAKA Kocani and the engaged person in the day center in Kocani. The other two workshops were held in Skopje on 20th and 21st of November, where participants were representatives from the other 14 local branches of the Republic Center – PORAKA.

During the workshops, each of the participants had the opportunity to present the SWOT analysis, and also to present the current activities in their organizations. The team of the Republic center – PORAKA, as well as the other participants, after the completion of each presentation, gave their remarks and advices in regards to the work of each local branch and day center, at the same time, emphasizing the positive examples of successful work.

These workshops had the aim to consolidate the activities and the work of the local branches and the day centers managed by the Republic center – PORAKA. It is of utmost importance at this moment since they will have to establish cooperation i.e. partnership relations with the local authorities and actively to contribute towards improvement of the human rights of persons with intellectual disability in the community.
