From the partnership of the Republic Center for Support of Persons with Intellectual Disability – PORAKA in the implementation of the European project “UNIQ”
Realization of the test – phase of the model “Nueva” in the Czech Republic
The Republic Center for Support of Persons with Intellectual Disability – PORAKA is included in the project “UNIQ – Users Network to Improve Quality” of ATEMPO, non-governmental organisation for persons with disability from Austria. The project is supported by the European Commission programme Progress, and its main goal is transferring the model for evaluation of services, which is developed by ATEMPO, in three European countries: Czech Republic, Norway and Germany. The model “Nueva” is an innovative approach that provides persons with intellectual disability to conduct evaluation of the services, which they are attending.
In accordance with the planned project activities, in February and March 2009, persons with intellectual disability from ATEMPO (which are working as evaluators of social services) trained persons with intellectual disability form Czech Republic, Norway and Germany how to evaluate social services in their countries, using the instruments of “Nueva”.
In the period from 16th till 18th June 2009, the third phase of the project was realized, in which the applicability of the model “Nueva” in the Czech Republic was tested. Four persons with intellectual disability and two supporters form Czech Republic, which were previously trained, conducted test – evaluation of several social services for supported living in Prague. The evaluators used the adapted questionnaire of “Nueva”. The managers of Atempo and two observers form Macedonia and Spain observed the whole process.
The overall conclusion regarding the test – phase in the Czech Republic is that, besides the short period of training, the four evaluators have shown high level of willingness and motivation, as well as continuous everyday progress during the interviews with the users of the social services. The applicability of the model “Nueva” in the Czech Republic will mainly depend on the possibilities for provision of its sustainability.
