European Conference on:
“Towards Community living: current realities, future challenges”
The general goal of the conference will be to facilitate the full inclusion of persons with disabilities in society, in the light of the UN convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. It also aims at promoting the broadest cooperation of stakeholders involved in the disability sector, across borders and cultural differences.
The discussions will be based on:
- The international policies and texts relevant for the sector (United Nations Convention, the Charter on Rights of the European citizens, the Disability Strategy of the European Commission, the Council of Europe Disability Action Plan 2006-2015, etc.)
- The specific situation of stakeholders involved in the Disability sector in Central, Eastern and South-Eastern European Countries and the challenges they are/will be facing
- The wish to promote, facilitate and enhance cooperation practices among stakeholders of the Disability sector, especially through twinning initiatives between organizations of this region and other regions of Europe
During the conference, the debates will focus on 4 core issues: Deinstitutionalisation, Quality of Social Services, Availability and Accessibility of Society.
The agenda will include general presentations on the abovementioned issues. The participants will then be invited to attend workshops based on the 3 I’s method (Information, Involvement and Impact). The objective of the process will be:
- To share models of good practices (Information)
- To analyze strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats (Involvement)
- To draft a policy paper with recommendations for local, national and European authorities (Impact)
