WHAT ABOUT MY RIGHTS?

In Republic of Macedonia , persons with intellectual disability are one of the most marginalized groups and they face discrimination and inequality from different type.

With the Law for Employment of Persons with Disability (Official Gazette 44/2000, Official Gazette 16/2004) conditions are created for realization of the right of employment for persons with intellectual disability, which is guaranteed in Article 32 from the Constitution of R.Macedonia.

However, the implementation of the Law causes many problems for persons with intellectual disability. The right of employment for persons with intellectual disability permanently and evidently is being abused by the employers.

While the employers are enjoying the legal rights and benefits (using finances from the Special Fund for employment of persons with disability, tax – free benefits, contributions etc.), the persons with intellectual disability as employees are often badly treated at the “sheltered” work places.

Under the motto “WHAT ABOUT MY RIGHTS?” the Republic Center for Support of Persons with Intellectual Disability – PORAKA started a campaign for support of employment for persons with intellectual disability for: breaking prejudices and inadequate treatment of persons with intellectual disability on the work place and building positive image regarding the potentials and possibilities of the persons with intellectual disability as employees.

THE RIGHT OF CHOICE FOR EMPLOYMENT OF PERSONS WITH INTELLECTUAL DISABILITY TO BE SUPPORTED BY THE STATE, WITH OBLIGATION FOR STRENGTHENING THE MECHANISM FOR MONITORING AND CONTROL OF THE RELATIONSHIP OF THE EMPLOYERS TOWARDS THE EMPLOYEES WITH INTELLECTUAL DISABILITY.

CITIZENS OF REPUBLIC OF MACEDONIA to realize and acknowledge the rights of the persons with intellectual disability.

THE EMPLOYERS to improve the approach and the attitudes towards the employed persons with intellectual disability.

THE DECISION – MAKERS to undertake initiatives for changes in the legislation and the policy, providing adequate realization of the rights of employment for persons with intellectual disability in R.Macedonia.
